Essay on Evils of Dowry

We have many traditions in our society. However, some traditions are harmful and should be abandoned. Among them, dowry is one of the greatest social evils. Dowry is the practice of giving money, jewelry, property, or other valuable items by the bride’s family to the groom’s family at the time of marriage. This custom creates a heavy burden on the bride’s parents and causes many social problems. Human beings suffer greatly when marriage becomes a matter of money rather than love and understanding. The evils of dowry have ruined countless families and brought pain to many innocent women. Poor parents often fall into debt or sell their property to meet dowry demands. If this harmful practice continues, it will weaken the values of equality and humanity in our society.

In our daily lives, we must recognize the dangers of the dowry system. We must refuse to give or accept dowry in any form. We must educate people that marriage is a sacred relationship, not a business transaction. We must support families who face pressure from unreasonable dowry demands. We must also stand against discrimination and violence related to dowry. Many women suffer mental and physical abuse because their families cannot provide enough dowry. We must protect their rights and ensure that every woman is treated with dignity and respect. A woman should be valued for her character and abilities, not for the wealth she brings to a marriage.

The best part of our generation is that we have the power to change society. We must raise awareness about the harmful effects of dowry and encourage simple and respectful marriages. We must speak out against injustice and support those who oppose this practice. Most young people today believe in equality and want to end outdated customs that cause suffering. I always encourage my friends and relatives to reject dowry and promote fair treatment of women. I think that if every person refuses to participate in the dowry system, this social evil will gradually disappear. Therefore, it is our responsibility to eliminate the evils of dowry and build a society based on respect, equality, and justice.
